In August 2022 I travelled three weeks through Georgia. Other than my former travels this trip was a fully organized trekking tour. The pace of this travel was very high, each day was optimally planed and completely filled with activities.
Our travel group consisted of 12 trekkers and one local guide. The most of the time we walked alone through the mountains of the Greater Caucasus, despite the fact, that August is the most busy touristic month in Georgia. The touristic infrastructure in the country was quite good, especially in the cities and touristic centers. But there are still many areas in the mountains, where the tent stays the only option. Some areas in Greater Caucasus can only be accessed with all-wheel-drive.
Georgia is a small country with high diversity of landscapes. It is a mountainous country, but it has a beautiful coast of the Black Sea too. Considering the nation's small size, the climate of Georgia is extremely diverse too. There are two main climatic zones, roughly corresponding to the eastern (dry) and western (wet) parts of the country.
Corresponding to the high diversity of landscapes and climate the biodiversity of Georgia is very high too. Unfortunately, the hunting pressure seems to be big too, so that the animals are very shy. For this reason we didn't see any interesting kinds of animals by our trekking. Even in the national parks there are still pastures populated with domestic animals.

The highlight of our travel through Georgia were for me the many old, defensive watchtowers looming high over our trekking path (see the photo above). Going these paths you feel as to be observed from the high, something you can experience only in Georgia.
The second highlight of the country was its national cuisine. We enjoyed a lot of delicious meals, which are unique to the Caucasian region.
Altogether, Georgia is an enchanting country on the boundary between Orient and Occident. Due to its huge landscape diversity, its long history and the traditions, this country bears high touristic potential.
