The rubber dinghy is packed and ready to go. Each boat have to sail under a flag. I wished a flag with the pirate symbol, but there was only the old red flag of the Soviet Union available. Besides me the other members of our crew could be seen at the photo: Nadia and our captain Oleg. Oleg is a former volcanologist, but now he sells computer hardware in Petropavlovsk. During our 3 days rafting tour he was an inexhaustible source of information and jokes about Kamchatka, Russia and the Soviet Union.

The boat was equipped with a small table in the middle. A bottle vodka and glasses always stood on the table. After each glass of vodka we ate bread, bacon, sausages, cucumbers and olives. Following the old Russian tradition the first glass was poured out in water. Although we drunk a lot of alcohol nobody of us was drunken at the evening, because the alcohol consumption was evenly spread over the whole day.
