The stunning Afro-alpine vegetation in Rwenzori.

Swathes of soft, blonde and waist-high tussock grassland, also known as alpine moorland, reach down from the snowline, punctuated by the so called "big game" plants: giant examples of common herbs like groundsels (Senecio sp.) and lobelias. The lobelias have 7 m high, powder-blue flower spikes. The even higher groundsels could be unmistakable recognized on the wooden stems and brought leaves on the top of the plant. Under the giant herbs extensive stands of Helichrysum, small plant with silver leaves, could be found. Because this plant carries their white flowers the whole year is it called the "ever lasting flower".

The groundsels and lobelias could be found starting on the elevation of 3,000 m. They become more common in the alpine zone above 3,800 m.
