The old Matatu-Station in Kampala is one of the most chaotic places in the city.

The matatus are the most important public transportation in Uganda. Matatus are minibuses, sardine-packed with passengers, identical in appearance and with no indication as to their destination.

For long distance transportation regular buses are used. There are no time tables for the buses. They departure when the bus is filled up with passengers. It can take some hours till the big bus is completely filled.

The traveling with the public transportation in Uganda is a always special "pleasure". The overcrowded buses and matatus, the hot whether and the dusty roads with many potholes make the drive very inconvenient. Nevertheless you can be lucky to travel by bus or matatu. The really horror trip is a many hours drive on the top of an overloaded pick-up truck, hanging on for dear life.
