The only really big town in Uganda is the capital city Kampala. About 1 Million people live there. The city is nice situated on many hills covered with shady trees. This gives the town the appearance of an extended village rather than a capital city. A long walk through the various parts of town offers a fascinating and rather depressing glimpse of the extremes of wealth and poverty which are characteristic of so much of Africa. There is an enormous chaos on the roads in the center of the city, that the crossing the road is a dangerous adventure.

The country dwellers live solely from the agriculture. Over 90% of Ugandans either are subsistence farmers or work in agriculture-related fields. The main crop are green bananas, which are cooked to "matoke", a staple diet in many parts of Uganda. In some parts of the country stock farming is very important. The special attraction in the rural areas are the colorful village-markets.
