A special attraction of Uganda are the Rwenzori mountains. It's the only alpine mountain range in the tropical Africa. The other high mountains are all solitary standing volcanos. There is a beautiful hiking trail through the Rwenzori taking 7 days. Because there is no any settlement in the mountains this trail get to an expedition. With 4321 m high is Mt. Elgon the second biggest mountain in Uganda. Many picturesque waterfalls fall down from the slopes of this big volcano. In Rwenzori and in other high tropical mountains is the unique Afro-alpine vegetation probably the most amazing part of the mountain. The giant herbs give the landscape an fabulous touch. The Bwindi mountains and the Virunga volcanos got famous as the last refuges for the high endangered mountain gorillas. Some few gorilla families was habituated and could be visited by small groups of the tourists. Especially imposing is the powerful silverback.
